Description
Colorful Abstract Landscape Paintings – ‘Tributaries’ by Sophia Persephone
I create colourful abstract landscapes intuitively. Without intending a specific outcome, I find my abstract art draws unconscously on the landscape around me. ‘Tributaries’ is no exception.
This painting is one of three painted over the course of a week. They all came flowing naturally from the brush, utilising a similar color palette and marks.

I find this is often the way my work emerges. For this series (and other abstracts of the same era) I started by making a few marks in charcoal which were sweeping and organic. Then I applied colour, letting my intuition lead the way. I applied several layers of paint, letting the earlier layers show through. In this way I aim to create interest and also to invite the viewer to step into the artistic process, tracing the decisions that were made during the course of creating the work.
In this painting, I balanced the bright palette with the addition of light, almost white elements, which lead the eye around the painting.
Size: 50cm x 40cm, sold unframed.
