Description
Colorful Abstract Painting – ‘Connections No3’ by Sophia Persephone
This colorful abstract painting uses flowing, organic forms to explore the idea of connection.
It’s inspired in part by mycelium – the vast network of fungal roots which exists below the ground and helps trees and other plants to communicate with one another.
In my abstract work, I’m continually exploring the idea that everything is connected. I paint intuitively, without planning, allowing the forms and colours to flow naturally. As a result, my work is iterative—built up over time in layers.
As I paint, I often feel compelled to connect different areas of the canvas. This leads to sweeping, rhythmic patterns and shapes. I work and rework sections as I move through the painting, feeling my way and seeking the most pleasing rhythm.
I start with acrylics, which allow me to shape the composition quickly, and then I switch to oils for their vibrancy and the flexibility they give me in mark making.
I’m deeply drawn to colour and use a broad palette, carefully balancing strong hues in pursuit of harmony. Creating harmony is vital to me—something I pursue with passion and commitment. In this painting, dark blues and purples are used to set off areas of red, pink, and yellow.
This abstract oil painting is large enough to create a dramatic centrepoint in any room and would work well on any colour wall.
Size: 90cm x 60cm, sold unframed.
