Description
Landscape Abstract Art – ‘Cornish Bay’ by Sophia Persephone
I’m a great lover of landscape abstract art and find elements of the natural world tend to inform my abstract paintings, especially my earlier paintings.
As with all my abstract painting, this one started with no specific idea in mind, however, as it developed, the idea of a seaside bay – particularly a Cornish bay – came to the fore.
Drawing on my memories of holidays in Cornwall in the UK to complete the painting, I played with rhythm and dynamic marks to suggest the idea of water.
I juxtaposed yellows and purples to create a vibrant composition, complementing the traditional seascape blues. I built the painting in layers, working and re-working it until I was satisfied with the composition. I used artist grade acrylics for the majority of the work, bringing in caran d’ache crayons for texture and interest. The eye is drawn around the painting with strategically placed red and orange elements.
This painting would look great on the wall of a lover of landscape abstract art, perhaps in a hallway to add a pop of colour.
Size: 50cm x 40cm, sold unframed.
