Description
Abstract Seascape Painting – ‘Ocean View’ by Sophia Persephone
This painting came a bit out of nowhere and is unlike anything else I’ve created.
I was aware while painting it that I was working with Richard Diebenkorn. I often channel deceased artists who help me with my paintings, and teach me new approaches and techniques (I’m both a medium and a channel).
This painting was made in oils and is painted over an unsuccessful acrylic abstract. You can still see parts of it peeking through. I made a conscious decision to leave these traces.
Diebenkorn worked in thin washes of oil paint which is a very different approach for me, as I tend to work in more of thick impasto style.
It was an interesting experiment and I love how the painting turned out, however I haven’t gone back to this style since.
If I had a larger studio and could have several paintings on the go at once, then I think I’d come back to it, as I really enjoyed it. So watch this space.
Size: 100cm x 100cm, sold unframed.
