Sophia Persephone is an artist based in London, England, who has developed a rich and diverse portfolio spanning portraits, abstracts, and landscapes.

From an early age, she demonstrated a natural talent for drawing and painting, but her artistic journey took a long hiatus in her mid-20s when life’s demands and a blossoming corporate career pulled her away from her creative pursuits.

It wasn’t until the age of 45, when she was suddenly struck by an irresistible urge to paint a portrait in oils—despite never having used oils before—that she returned to art with a renewed passion.

From that moment, painting became an all-consuming obsession.

Sophia went part-time in her business career to devote more hours to her craft, eventually becoming a full-time creative and coach.

A couple of years into this journey, Sophia experienced a profound spiritual awakening, in which she discovered that she had lived many lives as an artist, cementing her understanding of herself as a creative soul.

At the same time, she became aware that many famous artists from history were guiding her in her painting practice.

Although Sophia is also a spiritual awakening coach, writer, and DJ, it is through painting that she feels most deeply connected to her soul and higher self.

Her primary passion lies in portraiture, and her talent earned her a place on the 2024 edition of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year.

She’s endlessly fascinated by the human condition and the challenge of capturing the essence of the sitter, as well as the physical reality.

In addition to her portraits, Sophia embraces the freedom of abstract art, often turning to it as a way to break away from the constraints of realism, and explore composition, form, and colour with unfettered creativity.

She also finds joy in painting landscapes, where her innate sense of colour shines through in every piece.

She primarily works with oils for her portraits and landscapes, while using acrylics and pastels for her abstract work.

Preferring to produce large-scale works, Sophia constantly challenges herself by experimenting with new techniques and pushing beyond her comfort zone, striving for growth in every brushstroke.
