‘The Orange T-Shirt’ – Sophia Persephone – Contemporary Oil Painting

Contemporary portrait, painted in oils on archival quality linen.

This is a portrait of a friend that I met while learning in France alongside my painting mentor, Ann Gardner, around 2020.

I started working on the portrait at the time, but was unhappy with the outcome so set it aside.

I came back to it in 2025 and was conscious of channeling Lucian Freud while painting it.

I used Cremnitz white (lead white), which was Lucian’s preferred white paint, and an important cornerstone of his work.

You can see Freud’s influence particularly in the marks and colours of the jacket.

60x60cm, sold unframed.
