Original portrait painting of Amy Winehouse painted in oils on high quality linen, 60x60cm / 24×24 inches.
This is the second portrait I’ve painted of Amy. A year or so after I’d started painting in (I think) 2019, and had also started my spiritual awakening, she came to me in a dream and said ‘you should paint me, babe.’
It was such a real and intense dream, I immediately got up, at 3am, went into the studio and got down to work. When I’d finished, I posted a picture on my art facebook page and went back to bed. When I woke up later that morning, someone had already asked to buy the painting, So Amy was right!
I painted this version in 2022 for several reasons. First, Amy has been an occasional guide to me so I feel a close connection; second, she’s such a great subject and, third, my skills had moved on substantially and I wanted to create another, potentially better image of her.
This is one of the paintings during which I felt the influence of Lucian Freud, you can especially see his influence in the arm holding the microphone.
